Does D&c Make You More Fertile

Stoner, John Williams Interview

Title: Stoner
Author: John Williams
Publisher: Sun Dance
Year: 2010
Pages : 242
ISBN: 9788415019343

The first thing I do is admit that he knew neither this book nor its author, John Williams, until very kindly Dance sun sent him home to me some months ago. And the second thing I want do is just to thank this publisher for giving me the opportunity to discover an author and a work which I enjoyed very much.

Stoner is the title of the book and the name of its protagonist. William Stoner is a young gray, simple, sad, a lot man, that goes unnoticed, never gets into trouble and not hurt anyone. He lives with his parents in Missouri, which helps them work on the farm and the fields that feed the whole family. Obeying the advice of his father in 1910, aged 19, became a student of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Missouri. His idea is to study the four years of his career and return to the farm to continue helping his family.

But a very special and particular professor, Archer Sloane, gets in his way and completely change your plans, your life, present and especially future. Obeying Sloane, because it gives the feeling that Stoner can not say no, change the Agriculture for Literature, he received his doctorate and became a teacher.

not know if you like it or not, you know what you want, what you want, Stoner gets carried away, swept away by events. Some events marked first by the First World War and after the Second and even the English Civil War. Some events that will not only Stoner, but their only two friends, David Masters and Gordon Finch.

All he knows, the only thing that is clear is that I enjoy teaching, dealing with students, teaching and studying, researching, writing. But above all, Stoner is clear that the university enjoys a space and an environment familiar to them, nice, that help you feel safe and protected from everything out there, from all around the outside of University of Missouri. For Stoner college is a refuge, as is the home office where, surrounded by books, he is safe from his wife and daughter.

Stoner Edith falls madly in love on sight and without regard for his high social position and not know decides to marry her. However, their marriage falls apart from the first day, or perhaps more accurately, from the first night, and over the years, Stoner will be the victim of the war Edith brought against him, a war of attrition, full of slights, insults and attacks, even Stoner try to avoid them, you are affecting more and more.

As ever, Stoner looking for refuge in college to flee their personal and family problems without suspecting that there just find love, salvation, but also pain, failure, loss and heartbreak.

Stoner Because life is a continual agony, a succession of problems, fighting, fighting, fighting, pain, suffering and loss. And what hurts most of all this is how the protagonist of this novel does nothing to defend, not react, do not try to change your life, deal with his wife, his daughter Grace, their students or their main enemy in the University, Lomax, who, with ever more power and strength, try to make life miserable for Stoner.

Stoner is a novel, simple but not simple, just the opposite. She is frank, fascinating, honest, intense, vibrant and, above all, soulful. As we pass the pages, we are increasingly closer to its star and finally we see him as a friend or relative, someone known for many years and with whom we share life, good and bad, someone who causes us great love and great compassion, and even many times, sorry. Stoner suffer with it when we see suffering, because I admire, because we want and, above all, because his story is endearing, warm and beautiful.

In juvenile literature is one of the most widely read authors has been translated into German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Lithuanian and Korean. He was founder and president for eight years of the English Association of Young Writers.

currently teaches writing workshops, works as a literary critic for the newspaper El Mundo and spends the entire time he has left to take care of her three children, in the words of the author herself, are his best work. His latest novel, closed rooms, was released on 8 March.

- How and when did you know you wanted to be a writer?
"Always. I remember wanting something else. At age 10 I wrote my first novel.

- Why did you become a writer?
"I have thought many times and I have not very clear. For years I thought I started writing because I could not bear to life escape me and I needed to retain and out. Or write to retain what I love about life. Or to exorcise my demons. Or to invent a life less boring. Or to try to understand something. Writing always involves answering questions that do not know you had.

- Where seek and find inspiration?
-In anything. Even the flight of a fly is inspiring. The inspiration comes from within, never outside.

- Are you a maniac at the time of writing: you do it at the same time, same place, still some kind of ritual or else you just go with the inspiration, wherever you are?
"I have many rituals, more and more ... I write with music by Bach, with a lit candle on the desk, now in the morning, although I prefer the night, I isolate myself in a monastery to begin and finish my novels, I never read a novel as I write (but test or other gender) ...

- How would you define closed rooms?
"As the novel that has cost me more to write. While working on it, I often thought I had gotten into a big project that I came. I gave up for lost twice, and both started again. Now that I see published is a dream come true.

- Is there anything autobiographical in this novel?
"In all my novels are much autobiographical, but hidden under that mask and misleading kind of fiction, under which I am very sheltered. Only those who know me really well (very few) are able to find pieces of myself that is always in everything I write.

- What is the best and the worst you've heard of closed rooms?
-which is read in a weekend. Whereas almost 500 pages, is a great compliment.

- How do you come up with a story as historical but also current, which appears both fictional and real, real?
-I am interested in the past does not in itself, but seen from the present. And I am also concerned about the likelihood. The fiction must be believable. And some past is not without some real characters. So are there. While, yes, making clear what is real and what not.

- What is your favorite character or characters?
"I feel a predilection for the couple Rodolfo, Maria del Roser, I think are the most modern of the Lax family, but are also the biggest. I identify with the casual way see the world.

- What would you tell someone to read closed rooms?
"I have not very clear. It gives me bad to sell myself. I think a lot to say and at the end, I would not tell anything. Reading should never be imposed.

- What do you put into this story?
-The "thesis" of the novel is contained in its dedication: to the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of my children, they will not know who I was. Sometimes rebuilding the recent past is an impossible task. This idea is the genesis of this novel and throughout the book.

- What has been the work of documentation?
-Comprehensive. A year of reading and archive. Very satisfactory and completely addictive, yes.

- And the writing?
"At times, very difficult. Other, very stimulating. When I got to unlock the history and the narrative voice, writing was a joy after another.

- What are you working on book project?
"I round an idea for another novel, but I let it sit a bit and use to document. In the documentation you realize sometimes if the idea is worth or not worth it, and in this case I have not yet discovered.

- What do you look for when reading?
-A-ask novelists like lovers, who know more than me, which surprised me, seduce me. And if you know more than me, at least it seems.

- What to write? Seeking
thrill, but not exclusively. I think that a novel must have a claim of style, crafted a story that aspires to some originality, some flesh and blood characters, believable. There are many things. I'm afraid I'm very self-demanding.

- What are your favorite writers?
- So many! The could be sorted by alphabetical order, if you say all the. Although I always end up going back to my header poets: Machado (Antonio), Guillén, Salinas ...

- What you find it easy to write things you know or go with the imagination?
-A mixture of two things: apply the imagination to what they already know.

- What has been your personal experience in publishing and, in general, in the literary and publishing world?
"I worked hard, but I have gone wrong. Like many people, I posted too soon. This is not a skill that can be done in haste, but this is learned later.

- How do you see the present and the future of English publishing market?
"I am optimistic. I think it reads more than ever. It publishes many good things. Internet has made our time in the golden age of reading.

- What about the coexistence of the book of paper and electronic?
"That is wonderful. And that will last many years.

- How is your relationship with the Internet, new technologies, blogs or social networking?
"I'm very active surfer and completely addicted. I keep a blog for years, I'm normal social networks. I find great windows that look out to the world.

This is the website of Care Santos and this his blog .

Puppy Ate Bone Stool Is Black

Disappointing official adaptation (I never leave)

never leave me (2010) , adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same title written in 2005 by Kazuo Ishiguro I do not think a good movie . Since I have not read the novel will not go into tedious and / or predictable comparisons, but I will say that from the outset, do not understand why, if the action part of a disturbing truth to remain hidden at all costs , if that same plausible and can really enhance the plot, why not take advantage of the movie properly? The worst of the disappointing experience that I can not reveal anything that key without ruining the experience for those who have not seen. Because they can not, I can not even mention two previous titles - apparently lower, which, however, operate a much better starting point very similar - because the mere mention says it all.

Years ago I read An Artist of the Floating World (1986) and I had a feeling like that now with the film: the narrative thread of a seemingly distant and strange they are dropped or glimpse some transcendental issues, of those who are supposed to make you think. From what little I could read before entering the room any text failed to mention the wonderful treatment of all these things did the writer (Alex Garland, writer and personal friend of Ishiguro), his skill at capturing feelings when faced with extreme situations . Although I think that has been more concerned to obtain the approval of the author (who incidentally also works in production) about the accuracy of adaptation that the end result. I must be dead inside, because all I got clear was a succession of moments allegedly expressed much more intense than what they meant. Maybe I'm unable to drop to levels that require introspection Ishiguro's stories, but I certainly do not feel there was something that escaped me, quite the contrary : a supplement of information that the images became more than just a vehicle of expression of individual feelings partially set, or at least a narrative structure that gives shape to a story barely hints.

I've said before and I never tire of repeating cinematic storytelling has a limitation to the abstraction that makes the composition of certain accounts that require more than just an exhibition of situations. In the film must be capable of, through specific scenes, know how to lead the viewer into universal feelings and ideas it is impossible to show images without resorting to risky or strange symbolism turns formal. No is an impossible task, as there are filmmakers who have jumped without a net and they went well ( Wenders, Fellini ), others not so well ( Pasolini, Erice ) but that is certain is that without abandoning the classic style of narration, without introducing any element of intrigue beyond feelings without exploiting the obvious benefits of original literary, it is clear that not get those who have not read the book interested in the hidden and untapped drama gripping the triangle protagonist.

with premeditation ... and without spelling (6)

a Monday again, I bring you a new installment of the section with premeditation ... and without spelling. In this case it's an ad for a construction company in a local newspaper published a Madrid town last December.

I did not post the entire announcement, only the part that contains misspellings. As you see, have written advantage and relief with b instead of v . I do not know who will have been at fault, if the advertiser, the newspaper or two, but of course, is an oversight rather important. I do not know whether or not to take advantage of the reduction, but should use the rebates to buy a dictionary.

Letters from abuse, Roberto Martínez Guzmán

Title: Letters from the abuse
Author: Roberto Martínez Guzmán
Editorial: Desktop Publishing author
Year: 2010
Pages: 245
ISBN: 9781445771663

Roberto Martínez Guzmán sent me this book about three months ago and I was a very special Christmas gift and I want to thank you once again. Now, after reading three or four days, the only thing I regret is not reading it and enjoyed before. Although perhaps not enjoyed the best word.

Reading Letters from abuse has been intense, hard, shocking, cruel, obsessive, intimate, personal. Because that's the story that says Roberto Martínez Guzmán. A story in which he is only the editor of the letters of Monty, her partner, who for years was abused by her former partner when he was her boyfriend, her husband and even when it was her ex-husband.

The book consists of letters that, as a personal diary he wrote during the last two Montse years of abuse, between April 8, 2006 and April 28, 2008. The 256 cards are divided into ten chapters: The indifference, Divorce, Waiting for a role, as usual, in their hands, "Work = independence?, Pain and hope, pushed into hell, ready to die and to a centimeter death. In addition, these ten chapters are preceded by an introduction and an epilogue written closed by Roberto Martínez Guzmán himself. Along Montse accompany pages from his native Valencia to Foz Lugo, Galicia, Silos Cordoba, his return to Valencia and finally, his life, hell, the nightmare Lugo again.

Although the couple Montse, Quique, was when she met a drug addict, an alcoholic without a job or benefit, marginal someone with a past and a family uprooted just as she only saw in him Prince Charming to rescue him from his family, his loneliness, low self-esteem and its harsh reality.

However, although all around you, your friends, family, coworkers, Quique is one child, shy, quiet, polite, that's just the mask that goes when it leaves the street, because in the privacy of home is a monster abusive, violent person who does not hesitate in hitting, insulting, humiliating, raping Montse spy or so to cancel it and it can be controlled at will, to be his alone, to be its owner.

Something Quique quickly and easily get Montse forcing first to leave Valencia after Córdoba Silos and Galicia, isolation from family and friends and putting a few people who remain at their side of the hand, manipulating, lying, acting to make everyone believe it is the perfect husband and father, and thus lock Montse every day, because she suffers from agoraphobia and can not leave the street alone without being accompanied by Quique or Miriam, his first cousin, who occasionally glimpsed what was happening to Monty but without help at all at any time.

No one can help. Fear and anxiety paralyze you. No one can leave home for work or even to go shopping or take her daughter to school or park. Montse alone, contained, trapped in the inferno of blows, shouts, insults and tears. She feels humiliated, abandoned, forgotten, but also guilty for not knowing really see what it was Quique. Not being able to cash the divorce, to force him to leave home or leave her with her daughter and put on two In order to save from this hell in which they live.

this panorama so heartbreaking, the only escape from Montse are friends who met online, with those who chat and talk on the phone and, of course, his letters, the letters he wrote to late am, when the monster has been sleeping after the beatings, the insults, the screaming, rape, tears and blood, rage and helplessness. This monster that forbids such discussions, those calls and those letters. This monster that looks through the house and, when found, it destroys that no one knows how it really is.

know that those letters we are reading now are real, genuine, that all happened really impressed me much more than I expected. I thought it was going to be stronger, it would be able to endure, but many times I had to stop reading to give me not to mourn or cry, to remove the lump that had formed in my throat and my stomach not to vomit.

However, although sometimes the harshness of this story has left me very wrong body, I recommend this reading to everyone, men and women, I think everyone should read this book to find out how feel, what they think and what living women who are battered by their partners. Because after reading this book the stories of abuse, unfortunately, we see every day in the media, I seem cold, aloof, distant. Insufficient to understand and, above all, to raise awareness against this social scourge that we must fight all: victims, offenders and do not forget, also others, which many times we become silent witnesses to see, hear and remain silent or do not even want to see, looking the other way and that, ultimately, become accomplices of the perpetrator.

think
Montse has been very courageous to publish all these letters and her boyfriend, Roberto Martinez Guzman, has also been very brave to share with Montse his heartbreaking past. However, I have to put two drawbacks to this story. First, I would love to know what happened finally with Quique, if it was denounced, arrested and convicted, if he committed suicide or whether, instead, found a new victim that destroy life. And second, misspellings, commas and misplaced accents. I fully understand that letters of Montserrat, the original, are poorly written at that time the spelling was not important, but on the contrary, I have missed work correction and editing by Roberto Martínez Guzmán itself. Still, I hope these letters from the abuse reach many people for no woman would never be forced to write something similar.

Presentation PUK Number of Coan Interview with Marcelo Gomez

This weekend was intense, comprehensive, varied and, above all, literary. On Friday Paul and I went to dinner and party with six friends and ultimately, between dinner, karaoke, disco and we got breakfast in bed at 9 in the morning ... In short, we have no choice. And yet, despite having slept very few hours on Saturday we went to eat there with a friend and, as in the afternoon, stayed with Nuria, Leo's blog, therefore I am , and her sister Pilar, Rock and Roll Dreams to go to the presentation of PUK Number of Coan Gómez, whom we had invited from Oblique Editions.

As we arrived a half hour early, we had time to take us something. Of course, anything but coffee, because the local Echegaray 21, located in that direction from the center of Madrid, there was no coffee. At five minutes to seven we went to the floor, where seven would begin the presentation.

Without
however, did not start until half an hour later, at 19.30, and in that half hour gave us a little time to overwhelm us. The place was too small and narrow, had very little lighting and, especially, had a lot of people, too. Almost did not fit, we stood, stuck to each other, getting pushed ... We, like sardines.

Still, we endure the wait and finally the editorial director of Editions Oblique, Alberto Trinidad, and took the small stage, microphone in hand, joking, he went to all attendees. "I feel like a rock star, which actually is what I wanted to be all my life. Thank you all for having come this far and thanks to local Echegaray for allowing us a magnificent space. It gives me great pleasure to present to new authors, because in our editorial we are willing to help talented writers, however, have closed the doors of the big publishers, so they can see their work published and to fulfill its goal, his dream. So we're very proud to do well with rates as optimal by our team of collaborators at the highest level. I fancy myself to sing, standing here with the micro ... But you'd better leave to Coan. "

The author of PUK number, the protagonist of the event, took the floor: "I would like to introduce myself, but I think that by this time, I'll do without. Not that I want to be rude, or try to highlight my most unpleasant aspect, nothing like that. I just do not like to reveal data that is not at all relevant. For now. Surely you've ever crossed me in the street, in a bar, at a party in our stores, in the morgue or who knows, may even have been ... next to the door of your house. You may even have spoken to us on occasion. It is very probable that it was me that day who told him by phone but was sorry wrong number, or you apologize to the other night at the bar downtown after spilling my drink. It may even be that you and I have seen the faces on some bad times. I know, you know, or at least prescient. I know. And I never forget a face. It's dark, cold, smells bad, this place is small, dirty, uncomfortable and, moreover, you have no fucking idea where the fuck you. It is possible that more away from your house than you could want, or perhaps closer than you could imagine. You should get to scream, but it is more likely that no one would listen to you, even to hear. Subtle difference, but important anyway. Maybe somewhere there is a possibility of leaving this place, at what point of the map appear? Maybe in a big city, or in a small town. If you find someone fairly generous, might even help. Very unlikely in these times. The most logical thing is that you look with distrust and suspicion and escape thee, shun your eyes and slip away from your presence. What if you were on the mountain? How would a civilized enough place where they could help? Can not imagine how long they can become the distances in your circumstances. Yes, your circumstances. Have not you noticed what circumstances are you? Should assess in more detail, before trying to do anything, the circumstances where you are. So begins PUK number. Good night all. "

After this post so perplexing, in which Gomez Coan recited, because not even read the beginning of his novel, the author continued, "Thank you all for coming. My dream, my idea was that ye should come some, but not many. It's amazing, you are my father, my uncles, my sister, coworkers and studies, folk, Palma de Mallorca ... I'm very excited. Thanks. I hope you enjoy the novel much as I enjoyed writing and presenting. It is true that not everyone will like it, but do not be scared, that's fiction, the truth is here, but that's what I get from within. "

After this particular presentation, we like it or not, of course we were surprised and did not leave us indifferent, Nuria and I talked with Alberto Trinidad and she gave a copy of his book, The Architect of Atmospheres , and me one of PUK Number , So I take from here to thank you for the invitation to the presentation and books, as previously I had also sent angels Chasing of Alberto Díaz .

And since I had the book, I took it for me to devote the author. Coan I have to say that Gomez was close and very friendly. And, of course, his presentation of his work called me a lot of attention and piqued my curiosity. I'm looking forward to reading the book and, as is only 90 pages, soon you will have here the review.

I leave you with the picture I took with himself Coan Gómez and other pictures I took of one of the walls of the room, which had been decorated for the occasion with a sinister photographs by what I said Alberto Trinidad, have much to do with the argument PUK Number ...

Could My 3 Year Old Have Cold Sores

Luján, author of Burn

Marcelo Lujan was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in June 1973. Just ten years ago, in early 2001, Argentina and Spain decided to change and move to Madrid, where he currently resides. He has published works Flores Irene , In some heaven, Diversion and Poor expected. S or latest work is titled Burning winter. Manage miscellaneous literary blog called The concept of fiction. Here you can also find out more about this author and his works on his personal website: http://www.marcelolujan.com/

- How and when did you know you wanted be a writer?
-At eight or nine years I asked the Kings a skateboard and I brought a skateboard and two books. I always say that still keep in my library and it is true. Heart , Edmundo de Amicis and The Mysterious Island, Jules Verne . Were some juveniles editions that came with some drawings. I hit both these stories (especially Heart, the personal diary of a boy of the same age as me at the time) told me: "I have to do this, is the greatest thing there is." My mother preferred that I devoted to engineering ... claiming that her future daughter in law was going to thank.

- Why did you become a writer?
"That's why: because when you read the first books of my life I would probably be happy telling stories (that does not mean that my mother has been right, of course).

- Where do you look and find inspiration?
"Basically in the city where I live. I mean the people, for people who are the real engine of a city. Although it would be an idiot if you hide is also eager to tell when you read good stories.

- Are you a maniac at the time of writing: you do it at the same time, same place, still some kind of ritual or else you just go with the inspiration, wherever you are?
"I'm cranky before anything else. Therefore, I almost absurd rites carefully when constructing a fiction. The night, for example, is a magical moment. That makes me a sort of zombie when I have in hand a story: I write at night and sleep during the day. The whole world is very annoyed with me. And let me know.

- How would you define Burning in the winter?
-Uh ... Burning book is very particular. A literary exercise and proof that the writers are all crazy. The trick is to make people believe that our madness is a tool, a bridge to reach certain goals or so intellectuals who, after all, nobody is interested.

- Is there anything autobiographical in this work?
"In all the works of all authors is somewhat autobiographical. One scene, the character of a character specific spatial description, and so on. Know the edges dissolve soup autobiographical fiction itself, is the key to the literature (in my opinion).

- What is the best and the worst you've heard of Burning in the winter?
"I think all the criticism and comments about this book agree on one point: it is a special book, even special. Even deliriously special. I'm glad of that.

- How did you come to create a story from of 81 short stories, three parts with a text for each letter of the alphabet?
"Funny but Burning emerged by chance. I knew there was a book, a history, a common thread, long after he started to write. The earliest texts appeared Burning in my blog and was written exclusively for that. I got too many flattering comments (some established authors who do not know) as to leave those little bastards but short paragraph that gave me so many free narrative. When I had written some thirty or forty, I suggested it was a book. That's me led to rewrite some pieces but I always tried to keep the original spirit. Then, everything else is structure.

- Can you read Burning in the winter following the three stories of each letter or, by contrast, allows only one reading in order from each of the three parts?
"I saw that talked about this review it. The truth, I had not crossed his mind that possibility rayuelística. Decided by the reader.

- What do you put into these stories?
-we belong and are part of a world that is upside down and we will never be able to put in place. And that memory is the only proof that we are alive.

- You are so intense, dreamlike, melancholic, nostalgic, poetic and excited about the failure as your work?
-I tend to be a militant all of the things I like. At times verged on fanaticism. And the books we write are like our children are much like us.

- What are you working on now?
-In a novel poisonous.

- What do you look for when reading?
-That the text has a soul. Although I am convinced that it is commonly said around: writers only read to know how a story is written.

- What to write?
-might sound selfish but I'd rather be honest: feel good about myself. Also pay the rent or little notes of love that sends me every month without exception, Visa and MasterCard.

- What are your favorite writers? -Uh, that goes in spurts. It is important not to lose track of teachers, keep in mind the stories that marked, unforgettable books. I'm passionate about guys that leave skin typing, those who take it seriously. Those who break their heads trying to haggle the stereotypes and the most classic (though certainly not succeed). There is something few authors I respect a lot because I know your whole life is or was the literature.

- What has been your personal experience in publishing and in general, in the literary and publishing world?
"Well, I walked in the door of literary prizes. I did not get a glimpse of another entry. I believe that access to the publishing world for a young author, is difficult and very cruel. Sometimes I think many authors would be great, were lost in the attempt, how many were satisfied to receive the same insolent replies. Anyway, and I do not contradict with this, today anyone can be a writer.

Burn-In winter talk about football, mate, leave in writing notice your accent. It shows very proud to be Argentine. Am right?
"It's not the word pride. Argentina, Buenos Aires, are always in my heart. That can not be avoided. I am Argentine. And since you mention football, I tell you: I see Barça matches just to see Messi play. And that Messi is the best player in the world but because the best player in the world is Argentine. Do you understand? The idiosyncrasy of some countries is manifested in ways inscrutable. In any case, I have many years living abroad. Before it was worse. Returning to the book: Burn is written in Argentina. Forced at times. It was a goal I set out to begin with these texts. So I told you is a literary exercise.

- Why did you change the past ten years your home in Madrid Buenos Aires?
"Because I wanted to know if life was like in other parts of the world.

Accountt winter ... We will meet!

Finally, after much preparation, will meet at blogger arrived March 13! And, as one would expect, here comes a chronicle of the big day. For my part I can only say that I spent fear, that although it was seven hours, I flew , it made me short and I kept wanting more. We were talking all the time and, above all, laughing a lot, so that we end up with sore jaw ...

the end, between food and coffee we got together ten bloggers : Eva ( The story in my book ), Ismael ( drawer stories), his friend Caesar ( The Rucio corner), Mary ( little bit of everything), Nuria ( Leo, therefore I am ), Jorge ( Antenna Man), Sonia ( Book Corner), Lorenzo, boy, my boy Paul ( crab croquette wanted to be) and me.

The day began with a pleasant surprise and I was thrilled. Before leaving home, through the blog, Facebook and email I learned that Eva had decided at the last moment to join the left, and all animated, she came to Madrid from Ciudad Real. About 13.30, Paul and I were with her, Ishmael and Caesar in the Huertas area and then we went to the Puerta del Sol to find Mary.

The six together we went to La Latina to eat at the restaurant La Miguela where, in addition to eating great, we enjoyed for nearly two hours of conversation and laughter. I love this restaurant, but yesterday, above all, thoroughly enjoyed the company.

Although only person I knew before the curfew Sunday to Ishmael, Nuria and Paul, of course, hehe both with them and with Mary, Eva, Cesar, Jorge, Sonia, Lorenzo, I was super comfortable, I was among friends, as if we knew our lifetime. No awkward silences, nerves, embarrassment or anything. Throughout the evening all were laughing. And, of course, talk talk and talk. Book, of course, but also of our jobs, families, friends, cities, hobbies ... Come on, talk about everything.

After eating about 16.30 hours Nuria picked up in the Puerta del Sol and the seven we went to the bookstore / cafe Types Infamous, which is in San Joaquin Street number 3, next to the underground of Court, if someone wants to go.

Soon we came Caesar had to leave, but instead we were joined by Jorge and though Eva had to go to catch the train back to Ciudad Real and Ishmael accompanied him Atocha Station, the other five stayed and continue talking, laughing and enjoying this site, at least to me, whether I like it.

About 19 hours Sonia and her boyfriend came and seven lengthen the stay until 20.30 hours when they decided to leave home after a lot of laughs and an evening that was wonderful and I hope to repeat. And, incredibly, we left the cafe-bookstore without buying a single book.

Since at least Paul and I signed up for a bombing yesterday and were talking among all to a new left in the Madrid Book Fair in June, go to Ciudad Real de tapas and bare-Cross, which you can imagine what it is, lol and even a barbeque this summer ... Come on, no shortage of plans, if any proposed to make the following fall in Havana, do not you, Ishmael? hahaha.

Finally, Eva wanted to tell you that as we proposed for this fall a trip to Ciudad Real to make the path scenarios Horse Healer, Gonzalo Giner , other not only accept this magnificent proposal, but we came to do a joint reading of this novel. So you know, those who want to participate, and we notice specifying dates for the combined.

Well now you no more and leave you bored with what I imagine you are most interested and most want you have to see: the photos stayed! whole afternoon I was so comfortable that I forgot to take the camera bag, so the photos are courtesy of Eva and Sonia. Thank you girls!

The bookmark of your blog that gave us Eve.

Jeff Hardy Getting Belly Button Pierced

Similarities to reality is pure fiction (Elephant)

After viewing Elephant (2003) by Gus Van Sant and before starting to write about it I elaborate on some of my blogs reference (believed Babel had dedicated an entry, Lapore the thread mentioned the more general issue of extreme violence and its relation to narrative art) because felt the need to find - in whom I think I have taken measurement - a mark, a foothold to begin . A Palme d'Or at Cannes and quoted on the fly so should mean something.

First, Elephant is a hypnotic film, damn hypnotic. Input, the initial two-thirds of the film up a lengthy prologue - made from flat-sequence - of something that in fact the movie does not explain, but that only exists in our head . Most of the time the camera just follows a few students on the move by the institute: the principle misleads because we do not know who they are or what they do or what they want, after a few minutes stroll endless therefore threatens to bore, but wake up at the end interest when the viewer realizes that many of these walks start, intersect or end with an event referred to in a previous sequence. Elephant takes time to start introducing meaning in the images, and the immediate effect of this narrative strategy is a mixture of fascination and forgetfulness that can be taken both as a genius as a senseless waste beginner. Secondly, it is only in our head like a planet Mercury is difficult to see in the sky because it is too close to a blinding light, it is impossible to see Elephant as officially meant to be: a fiction film whose resemblance to reality is "purely coincidental" (he says in the credits, that's why I stayed until the end). And that is without Columbine events of April 20, 1999 this film would not exist. Van Sant knows, the technical and artistic know, the critics and the public know, all know ... but it makes for some strange and / or elaborate reason, like the elephant that mention the title (the English word elephant in the room is used to describe huge problems we all ignore the way).

Elephant concatenation shown in those universes in which adolescents simply do not exist higher (in the film, the only adults that appear are the workers of the institute and the father of one of the students. They are there as if they were part of the building but do nothing or interest students) and young people spend their time roaming the halls of school. Moving from one place to another, meet colleagues and semidesconocidos, chat about everything and anything, they make their way ... Such a characterization seems to me a very accurate approximation of what may become the universe to a teenager (Lapore 're right, these planes are almost an embodiment of adolescence), at certain ages or in certain circumstances, there comes a time when not need to be a mindless or a madman to have a sesgadísima perception of reality, inhabit a mental world where only fit so tight our own desires and inexplicable hatred. That look that can not / want / know to look beyond the camera portraying the long shots during the first part sustained : a universe that is limited to covering high school, only spaces that make sense for those who inhabit every day. From there to believe that beyond these walls there is nothing very strong.

The film is not at any time to justify or explain the actions or behaviors portrayed, merely show and let the fascination of the images make up for the lack of information (this is the millimeter designed and I attribute it entirely to know how Van Sant), allowing gradually, recurrences and a story emerges matches. The significance makes its appearance near the end, when events reach what we all know will happen. Only then the camera and the narrative leave the school to show the two protagonists at home the day before chosen: we see them playing video games (violent, of course), watching a documentary on Hitler, playing Beethoven on the piano feelingly, showering together in the morning ... All together composing the indirect exposure of more simplistic reasons, crude and painful whole film, as if this string of topical enough to explain everything that will follow. After this one slip, Van Sant takes up the story with skill, chance, provocation, fate, give meaning to the walks and talks and views of each of the characters. Reactions brave, foolhardy, pathetic, stupid, desperate ... all makes sense - significant or trivial, gives both, but that's good - once they know what ends up happening on that fateful morning. Finally the images just writing a story designed carefully, not with the crystal clarity of the classic story, but with the advantage of a more experimental style able to hook to the body and mind drag. I thought the end was explicitly out of the film, which would make it more disturbing, and so had in mind another title for this entry: "the day before the violence" . Elephant

seems a brave film because he dares to experiment with narrative with a real event that American society had to digest almost , equally brave Diane Keaton, who contributed money to a project as controversial on the role, and just as brave HBO for showing once again that bet of formats and topics are not always comfortable for the viewer.
